Yi-Mei Templeman is friend of Tape Op who records under the name Yeemz. She’s a songwriter and composer who plays cello, piano, banjo, guitar, and sings. Back in issue #162 she reviewed DPA’s 4099 cello mic for us.
She recently released her first full length LP, Blame The Gods, that she recorded at Panoramic with producer Leroy Clampitt (Look for a full interview with Leroy soon!). It’s a great listen and she easily mixes her pop, classical and experimental influences without sounding forced or contrived.
Check out this recent video where she explains her composition and recording process for the track, “No Trace.“ It’s a really interesting listen and name checks several folks that Tape Op has interviewed like Pauline Oliveros and Alvin Lucier.
Tape Op is a bi-monthly magazine devoted to the art of record making.
